The Return of the 70’s-inspired Clog

What:

Swedish Clogs by MIA Shoes

Why:

I love me a good clog for two reasons: my mother was a hippie and always sported a pair with sexy cut-off shorts or funky bell bottoms, making me fall in love with their easy, breezy style. What’s more, I’m of Scandinavian decent (on my mother’s side,) where clogs aren’t just fashionable; wearing them is a way of life. So, I guess you could say my love of clogs is “in the jeans,” but they go with way more than just that…

Just ask the stylish crew over at “MIA Shoes.” The company is nailing the trend (yet again,) by bringing back its original 70’s-inspired Swedish Clog that originally made them famous. The beautifully crafted, Italian leather shoe (made of alder-wood to accommodate the foot for a great fit) is cool, comfortable and classy. They come in a variety of different colors and styles, perfect for any fashionista’s wardrobe.

Expressing the clog trend for “Shireen’s Favorite Things” was fun and funky with fashions and accessories from one of my favorite on-line stores, “Haute Glam Boutique.” Showcasing the versatility of the shoes was simple by pairing them with a variety of looks: a feminine sundress, funky wide-legged leopard pants and two eye-popping rompers. For me, it was all about channeling those hot outfits my mom wore so effortlessly all those years ago.

The SurfComber on South Beach was the perfect backdrop for “The Return of the 70’s-inspired Clog,” with its fabulous lobby, which is this great mix of art and furniture; evoking a hippie-slash-bohemian vibe. The clog trend isn’t just stylish, it’s so darn comfy you’ll never want to take them off and that’s why they’re one of my favorite things.

When:

I love sporting the clog trend on the weekend when I’m just lounging around or when I’m out to lunch/brunch, but still keeping things fashionable. Also, over the last three weeks I’ve been hobbling around on crutches after knee surgery and the Swedish Clog has been my go-to shoe! Clogs and crutches? Bring it on, baby!

Shireen's Spotlight: Surfcomber Hotel

What: Surfcomber Hotel, 1717 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida, 33139

Why: I’ve always adored this sassy little boutique hotel. It’s a quaint oasis, smack-dab in the middle of the hustle and bustle of what’s sometimes a chaotic vacation destination. It has an air of privacy to it that I’ve always appreciated. I love its pool, too, because it’s perfectly placed between the ocean and a few of its gorgeously raised seaside cabanas. Speaking of…

Those cabanas are the perfect place to lounge around during a weekend getaway, a day at the spa (I love their “Cafecitio Massage”) or for their newest creation that’s called: “One Last Fling.” Yep, it’s just like it sounds. The hotel maps out the last single moments of a guy or girl’s life with lite bites, fab bubbly, bottoms-up beer and of course, the beautiful beach. Does it get any better?

Ahhhh… marriage isn’t that bad! I’ve tried it a few times myself. Call me romantic, but I’d rather spend that quality time with my plus-one. Either way, it’s definitely a terrific place for a time-out, no matter what the season or reason.

Where: The hotel is right in the middle of all the South Beach excitement (on Collins Avenue.) You’ll not only be able to enjoy Art Deco buildings and walk to great restaurants, it offers some of the best people watching in the world. It’s way better than any airport. Take it from me, I’ve been around the globe a handful of times.

When: The Surfcomber is open all year round, but its “One Last Fling” package only lasts through December.
