What:

Gladiator Sandals by MIA Shoes

Why:

When I hear the word “Gladiator,” the first thing that pops into my head is actor Russell Crowe, playing the role of Maximus Decimus Meridius, in that famous and totally awesome Ridley Scott movie, “Gladiator.” It’s still one of my favorite flicks to date.

Maximus wasn’t just brave; he was sexy, provocative and totally hot! Just like the “Gorgeous Gladiator” trend. If you couldn’t tell, I used the movie as creative inspo for the blog; more specifically, Connie Nielsen’s character, Lucilla. If you don’t remember her in the film, she was exquisitely dressed as a Grecian goddess in almost every scene. I know, I know…

I’ve written so many blogs on this particular trend, but honestly, it never goes out of style. It just keeps reinventing itself. This spring (and heading into summer), it’s all about the TALL gladiator sandal, ones that slink all the way up the leg. The more laces, straps and detailing, the better! And…

If you got it, flaunt it! Hello, MIA Shoes (a Miami-based company and one of my favorite things), is currently slaying the “Gorgeous Gladiator” trend. For the blog, in killer kaftans and jewelry from Le Beau Maroc with the always-inspiring Mandarin Oriental, Miami as the backdrop, I’m working MIA’s Ricarda, Donata and Devi styles.

The Ricarda is my favorite with a sexy but comfy heel and a coy hint of fringe, which keeps the look current. Also, I love how the sandals lace up the front and zip up the back, allowing for a perfect fit around my leg (most fashionistas know how tricky the whole calf thing can be).

Even though natural leather colors are in, I love the black sandals, too. Pairing it with summer-inspired colors really makes the shoe stand out. The “Gorgeous Gladiator” isn’t just regal, it’s timeless. If you invest in a pair, they’ll be in style for years to come and that’s why it’s one of my favorite things.

You can find MIA shoes on Instagram & Twitter: @shop_miashoes or shop the blog looks at www.miashoes.com.

When:

I think the “Gorgeous Gladiator” trend is pretty versatile, but I especially love wearing mine on the weekend. If I’m not pairing the sandals with a dramatic kaftan, there’s nothing like wearing them with an off-the-shoulder sundress that hits mid-calf. I like dressing up the trend, too. Think date night: a slinky top, a flirty skirt and a high-heel gladiator. Just like a Roman fighter, you’re sure to knock em’ dead.

What: Le Beau Maroc, 9507 Harding Avenue, Miami, Florida 33154

Why: Because I’m still living off the high of my “Moroccan Dreams” that’s why. My “Shireen’s Favorite Things” feature on the stylings of “Le Beau Maroc” (which means “the beautiful Morocco” in French) got such a great response, I wanted to keep the fashion ball rolling. This little boutique is not only a hidden gem with a warm, welcoming energy, it’s couture kaftans are exquisite, sophisticated and truly one-of-a-kind.

Owner Asmaa Benkirane (who was born and raised in Casablanca, Morocco) works with designers from around the world to ensure each kaftan she carries is created with the utmost integrity, complete with gorgeous materials, hand-sewn detailing and sophisticated styles. Her pretty pieces are a true reminder of the terrific trends her native country has captured and cultivated.

Honestly, you won’t find anything like these kaftans in Miami. Whether it’s a special occasion, a fun party or just a day at the beach, the stylings of “Le Beau Maroc” are beyond beautiful. Plus, no one else in the room (party, dinner, event) is going to be wearing what you’re wearing and really, isn’t that what every woman wants?

Where: The store is in the heart of the bustling little seaside town of Surfside. I love this part of Miami, mainly because it has a small town feel but, at the same time, it boasts the fabulousness of a big city with amazing retail shops and fab restaurants.

When: Monday-Thursday 11am-8pm/Friday 11am-6pm/Saturday 12pm-9pm/Sundays by appointment.
