Shireen’s Spotlight: Oak Tavern

Oak Tavern
What: Oak Tavern, 35 NE 40th Street, Miami, FL 33137

Why: There’s just something about the Oak Tavern that makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over. It’s intimate, yet spacious; hip, yet doesn’t try too hard. What’s more, it’s the kind of place that makes me wanna get together with my closest friends and eat, drink and laugh the night away. It’s named after the “majestic transplanted giant oak tree” snuggled into its splendid outdoor patio.

The bar is big and welcoming and home to a killer Happy Hour with drink and snack specials. Off to the side, there’s a huge communal table and a-just-the-right-kind-of-size dining room beyond that. Almost everything inside is reclaimed wood; I especially like their whimsical wooden lamps that appear to be trees with lamp shade tops. The food is “Modern American” and easy to share.

When I dined there last week I tried the following: Crab Toast, Grouper Ceviche, Charcuterie Plate, Octopus A La Plancha and Heirloom Tomato Salad (all pictured in the blog.) The tomato salad and octopus were my favorite. Matter of fact, I’m still dreaming about those big, beautiful, juicy tomatoes and may have to go back to the scene of the crime. I’m pretty sure I demolished the plate single-handedly. The highlight was washing it all down with “The Green Mile” (made with gin, cucumber puree, Serrano pepper, cilantro and lime.) I left happy and ready to head back for more.

Where: It’s located in one of my favorite places in Miami: the uber trendy and chic Design District. It’s a sweet little lay-out, too. You walk right under a beautiful brick archway to enter “The Tavern,” which leads into a sprawling garden/patio area that blends right into the restaurant itself.

When you walk in, the vibe immediately engulfs you with warm lighting, a lovely art mural and a kicked-back, hipster energy; you feel like you’ve found a hidden hot spot. There’s a valet in front of the restaurant, but I always manage to find street parking. I like to stretch my legs and walk a few blocks, so I can enjoy the booming business landscape and the always interesting art murals the district has to offer.

When: Oak Tavern is open for lunch, happy hour, brunch & dinner! My kind of place.

Shireen's Spotlight: Poltrona Frau Miami

Shireen's Spotlight: Poltrona Frau Miami

What: Poltrona Frau Miami, 3800 NE Miami Court, Miami Design District, FL. 33137

Why: Being a fashionista isn’t just about wearing stylish clothing, it’s also about creating a stylish environment. I just adore being at home surrounded by all the beautiful things that I cherish.

When it comes to fashion forward furniture, Poltrona Frau Miami is one of the best in the business. It’s all about Italian luxury, class and uniqueness. Whether it’s a Pucci-inspired chair, a Louis Vuitton-like supple leather couch or a decadent vase with jewelry to match, this place has got it all.

When I first walked into the uber-chic space, I was hypnotized by its elegance, but more importantly, it reminded me of a lesson I learned long ago when I first started furnishing my home. My mother used to always say: “Never buy your furniture all at once. Instead, buy each piece separately and look for things that are special, unique and personality-driven.” That’s what I love about Poltrona Frau Miami; it allows you to do just that.

The Peacock green armchair I’m sitting in (pictured in the blog,) is constructed out of crumpled sheets of felt. Its curves are fanciful, feminine and fetching. It’s perfect for a glamorous powder room or to add pizzaz to a regal sitting area. The grey Wanders’ Tulip armchair (pictured in the blog) is fabulously feisty and would spice up the corner of a spacious bedroom or add dimension to a small, urban-style living room (both chairs are by Cappellini.)

Where: The expansive store is easy to access right off 38th Street (one of the main roads) in the Miami Design District. There’s plenty of room to park, too. Just make sure you give yourself ample time when shopping, because the big, airy, sleek two-story loft layout is chock-full of fabulous furniture finds.

When: Monday-Friday 10:00am – 6:00pm, Saturday 11:00am – 5:00pm

Shireen’s Spotlight: Billionaire Italian Couture

Shireen Sandoval, Shireen's Favorite Things, Fashion Blog

What: Billionaire Italian Couture, 4000 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL. 33137

Why: This place breathes fabulous new life and sophistication into the ZZ Top song, “Sharp Dressed Man.” Billionaire Italian Couture is the kind of store that makes me wanna run around the place touching, feeling, smelling and purring over every single fashion item I come in contact with. It’s decadent and daring and its duds can dress any man in head-to-toe deliciousness.

Listen guys, if you wanna get your love of luxury sartorial fashion on, this is the place, period. The clothes are bold and beautiful. What’s more, the regal, ready-to-wear brand boasts superior quality, unique designs and an attention to detail that’s hard to find in today’s fashion landscape. Everything is made by Italian artisans using exotic leathers, fine Italian silks and cottons. Why look like a million bucks when you can look like a billion? Just saying…

Where: In the heart of Miami’s thriving Design District where food, fashion and all things hip and happening seem to set up shop. The store is housed in a stand alone historical building. Inside, it’s blinged out in the most beautiful way. I don’t know why, but something tells me the late Gianni Versace would’ve loved this place.

When: Monday-Friday: 10am-7pm, Saturday 10am-8pm, Sunday 12pm -6pm

Shireen’s Spotlight: V73 Boutique

V73 Boutique

What: V73 Boutique, 4218 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami, Florida 33137

Why: A V73 purse is the kind of bag that makes people stop you in the street and ask: “Where did you get that beauty?” The Italian purse company (helmed by designer Elisabetta Armellin) focuses on creativity, quality and elegance. One of its tag lines is “Life In A Bag” and believe me, that describe me to a T! I carry my professional and personal life in my purse and then some. So, why not do it with class, sophistication and style?

A V73 is roomy, rare and ridiculously addicting. Every bag comes with a logo charm and what woman doesn’t like a little eye candy for her constant companion? Stand-out purses include the Miami Bag from its Cruise line and the Venezia in Vivid Blue. If diamonds are a girls best friend, than a V73 purse must be her lover.

Where: The pretty little boutique, styled with all things Italian (from the furniture to the gorgeous chandelier,) is perfectly positioned inside a charming little house in the Miami Design District. It’s right off the District’s main road, 2nd Avenue, making it easily accessible. Stop by for a look, you’ll find a warm, welcoming and wonderfully relaxing atmosphere.

When: Monday-Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 11am-5pm (closed Sundays)
