Here we are again, smack dab in the middle of another sweltering South Florida Summer. You’d think I’d be used to it by now, but every year I find myself mumbling under my breath,“Why is it so hot?” When will it cool down” ?
While I’m not a fan of the heat and humidity, I do like the changing landscape of Summer fashions, especially this year.
The biggest trend slinking its way into August is the airy and sexy Nightgown Dress.
It surprised me at first because a couple of years ago, it gently worked its way into the Fall fashion lineup but just kind of slipped away, unnoticed. Now, it’s back with a glamorous vengeance.
“The nightgown dress evolved from a casual 17th century men’s indoor robe into a specialized, luxurious women’s sleepwear garment, and finally into a modern fashion statement.”
The color palettes range from soft pastels to bright, vibrant hues, meant to mirror the energy of summer.
For “A Bohemian Summer,” I tried a two-piece neon number by Steve Madden with matching shoes (because I liked the less expensive price point) and paired it with a see-through jelly purse which are one of the must-have accessories of the season.
I blinged up the look with statement rings created by some of my favorite local designers and, taking a cue from the hottest country star of the moment, Ella Langley, I chose braids and butterflies to wear in my hair. Instead of “Choosin’ Texas,” though, I’m surviving a “South Florida Scorcher”.
FYI, you can make any outfit standout with a vintage piece. Earlier this summer I went home to Santa Fe, New Mexico and found the most unique vest.
I knew I had to snag it for its intricate Middle Eastern design and buttery soft material. It’s not only one-of-kind, it’s a piece I know I’ll wear for years to come.
Remember, whatever you’re slipping into this summer, keep your materials light and your accessories clean.
And, don’t forget to buy one of those battery operated mini-fans from Amazon to keep in your purse. It’ll keep you looking cool and dewy instead of being drenched in sweat.
