Shireen’s Spotlight: Black Sheep

What:

Stopping for a quick bite to eat at one of Miami’s hippest new restaurants: Black Sheep.

Why:

Just like “Cheers”, the iconic television show from back in the day, Black Sheep is a place where “everybody knows your name”.

It’s friendly, intimate and progressive. With a long bar, a few tables and a small lounge area, you’ll feel like you’re right in the thick of it, because frankly, you are.

On any given night of the week, you’ll find just two people (one server and one chef) manning the entire restaurant. Shockingly, they do it with a smile. While Miami hospitality remains on an endangered species list, at Black Sheep, there’s plenty to spare…

And just because the place is small doesn’t mean the menu is.. Alongside a diverse selection of beer, wine and fresh juices, Black Sheep’s food portions are nothing short of mesmerizing (that’s code for you’ll never leave hungry or thirsty, for that matter.)

I started my Spotlight experience with a hearty bottle of “1862 Chimya” (a frothy, stout beer with a cider-esque personality). I couldn’t resist a glass of white wine, too. Especially because “Nautilus” is a New Zealand brand and Marlborough is one of my favorite regions when it comes to fermented grape juice.

The wine paired perfectly with my first dish, “PEI Mussels with Coconut Curry”. Prince Edward Island mussels are my favorite because they’re always fresh and meaty. Hmmm…the curry was good enough to drink, especially with accents of cilantro. Nothing like slurping, dunking or soaking up leftover broth. It seriously gives me LIFE.

If you’re a “Chicken & Waffle” fan, stop the presses! Although Black Sheep’s take on it is pretty straightforward, it’s ridiculously delicious. If you need extra sauciness, add some Sriracha. 🔥 Did I mention the amazing breakfast/brunch menu? Served all day, everyday.

In between bites, I tried an extra fresh, extra yummy “Saki Collins” (made with strawberry, sake, apple shrub, orange bitters, honey and lime.) It wasn’t a shot, but you’d never know it by the way I swigged it back. LOL.

Finishing up dinner, “Duck Tacos” topped with Sriracha mayo cabbage hoisin, cilantro and grilled scallions. And ending the night right, an extra ooey-gooey “Banana Chocolate Bread Pudding.” Hello, mushy goodness, where have you been my whole life? Purrrrr.

If you wanna feel like a person, not just a table number; you can COUNT on ”Black Sheep” – it kept me happy with its hip personality, genuine hospitality, all while enjoying huge plates of food and that’s why it’s one of my Favorite Things. Cheers!
