The twisted trend of the moment is top braids with loose wavy hair (pictured in the blog.) The goal is to feature your face by twisting your front hairline back. The rest of your locks should be tousled.

Braids are perfect for the Miami girl trying to beat the heat and humidity. It’s an easy way to stay fashionable and fight the frizz. Low side braids are in, too. They’re easy, elegant and perfect for a day party or an after-five event. The loose fish tail, also worn to the side, is more of an edgy, romantic, fashion forward look.

To get your braid to stay for a couple days, a holding product before and after is key. If your twisted sister makes it through the night, use a soft brush or a comb to tame fly-aways. Next day braids, which I love wearing when I travel, especially on long plane rides, usually morph into something more relaxed and casual.

Oh, So Roberto!

Oh, So Roberto!

I first came face-to-face with Roberto Cavalli back in 2005. He was overly tan, flanked by half naked women and oozing as much charm as the day is long. I met him poolside in the back of a famous South Beach hotel, where a handful of Miami movers and shakers had gathered to sample his new vodka.

As I tossed one back (for journalistic purposes, of course,) Roberto turned to me and asked in his thick Italian accent: “What do you think of my vodka?” Through watery eyes and a burning throat, I managed to blurt out: “It tastes like fashion.” He laughed out loud, grabbed my face, kissed both of my cheeks and exclaimed: “Have another!”

The Must Have Maxi (just because…)

The Must Have Maxi (just because...)

My love for the high-low hemline started way back in high school because of a beautiful dress that I wore to my eleventh grade prom. While that hemline brought me a lot of happiness back then, the style quickly came and went. Now, a few decades later, “The Must Have Maxi (just because…),” is the must have dress of the Summer.

The style originated in the 19th century, to complement women’s evening wear. It was created to mix elegance and drama. It was also popular in the 30’s and 40’s and eventually, in the Summer of 2012, it seamlessly fit into fashion again. It’s been gaining steam ever since. The fun and flirty hemline is extremely versatile and best of all, it can show off a killer pair of legs or your favorite pair of shoes.

Even though the high-low skirt is uber-popular, I tend to lean toward the dress trend. For me, it’s more of a streamlined look. Sometimes a shirt/skirt pairing can be bulky, because you’re dealing with extra material. Especially if you’re petite and especially if you’re donning a dramatic hemline. The dress, on the other hand, elongates the body and if you pair it with nude shoes or an opened-toed, beige bootie (preferably the color of your skin,) you’ll immediately add extra length to your legs.
